Pendrel legs out Batty for third place in World Cup race

At the second UCI Mountain Bike World Cup of the season Canadians took third and fourth places respectively on Sunday in a closely contested cross-country race in Albstadt, Germany.

Catharine Pendrel riding in a time of 1:36:07 finished third ahead of her national teammate Emily Batty (1:37:23). Jolanda Neff of Switzerland won at a time of 1:36:07, followed by Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa of Norway (1:36:35).

It was a 1-2 finish for mountain bikers Catharine Pendrel and Emily Batty at Glasgow.

The top two places were the same at the opening World Cup race in the Czech Republic a week earlier, while Pendrel finished seventh and Batty was 12th in a field of 78 elite female cyclists at Nove Mesto na Morave.

Raphael Gagne was the top Canadian men’s rider in Albstadt (22nd) and Derek Zandstra was the first from the maple leaf nation to cross the finish line in Nove Mesto (23rd).
