Abel adds World Cup bronze to Rio test event medal haul

Jennifer Abel made her second FINA World Cup medal a bronze, after the women’s three-metre springboard competition at Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre on Tuesday.

At the Olympic test event which doubled as a stop on the diving World Cup circuit, Abel won Canada’s first individual medal of the competition in women’s three-metre springboard. The Canadian scored 354.45 points to secure third, finishing behind Chinese divers Shi Tingmao (398.70) and He Zi (387.90) who claimed first and second respectively.

Pamela Ware also competed in the women’s three-metre competition placing 16th overall. The Canadians teamed up on Saturday for the women’s three-metre synchro competition where they finished second overall, to win the nation’s first medal of the competition.

Maxim Bouchard clinched another Olympic spot for Canada at Rio 2016 in men’s 10m platform. The Canadian placed seventh in the preliminary round of the competition and will advance to Wednesday’s semifinal.
