Coby Iwaasa

Biography

By the age of 19, Coby Iwaasa had won four under-18 national titles (2012-15) and the Men’s Open Singles and Doubles events at the 2015 Canadian Championships, becoming the first male racquetball player in Canada to win both the Open and under-18 national titles in singles and doubles in the same year. Iwaasa has won eight medals in his five World Junior Championship appearances, highlighted by the under-16 world title in 2012. In 2014 Iwaasa won a World Racquetball Tour (WRT) pro tour event by upsetting highly-ranked Alejandro Cardona of Mexico. In May 2015, Iwaasa had his highest finish at a Tier 1 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) event, advancing to the quarterfinal after defeating José Rojas, the fifth-ranked IRT player in the round of 16. Iwaasa helped Canada to a bronze medal in the team event at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, before taking a two-year hiatus from the sport. Upon his return in 2018, Iwaasa won his third National Doubles championship and represented Canada at his first senior World Championships.
