L\u2019\u00e9quipe qu\u2019a envoy\u00e9e le Canada \u00e0 ces Jeux comptait le plus grand nombre d\u2019athl\u00e8tes d\u2019hiver de son histoire, soit 222. Au total, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a remport\u00e9 25 m\u00e9dailles; il s\u2019agit donc des Jeux olympiques d\u2019hiver les plus r\u00e9ussis pour le Canada en sol \u00e9tranger.<\/h1>\n<p>Le parcours d\u2019un olympien jusqu\u2019au podium n\u00e9cessite le d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019une fondation solide en saison morte afin de pouvoir concourir au sommet de sa forme aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des meilleurs athl\u00e8tes du monde quand arrivent les Jeux olympiques. L\u2019athl\u00e8te de 24 ans est membre de l\u2019\u00e9quipe canadienne depuis 2007 et affirme que la bonne nutrition a \u00e9t\u00e9 une composante essentielle de la r\u00e9ussite de son \u00e9quipe \u00e0 Sotchi.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Notre devise \u00e0 l\u2019approche de Sotchi 2014 \u00e9tait de \u201cs\u2019habituer \u00e0 ne pas \u00eatre \u00e0 l\u2019aise\u201d. En pensant que si nous pouvions performer sur la glace tout en \u00e9tant ext\u00e9nu\u00e9es \u00e0 cause des entra\u00eenements difficiles, nous pouvions alors certainement performer quand les m\u00e9dailles \u00e9taient en jeu\u00a0\u00bb, se rappelle Nathalie.<\/p>\n<p>En ao\u00fbt\u00a02013, Natalie a quitt\u00e9 sa ville natale de Scarborough pour se rendre en Alberta afin de s\u2019entra\u00eener \u00e0 l\u2019Institut canadien du sport de Calgary. Pendant cinq mois, l\u2019\u00e9quipe a pass\u00e9 pr\u00e8s de 12\u00a0heures par jour \u00e0 la patinoire. De 7\u00a0h \u00e0 19\u00a0h, les entra\u00eenements se d\u00e9clinaient en exercices sur la glace, entra\u00eenements au sol et s\u00e9ances de cardio. Il \u00e9tait crucial de bien se nourrir pour pouvoir suivre un horaire si intensif.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Les athl\u00e8tes ont besoin de beaucoup plus de calories que la personne moyenne. Au camp d\u2019entra\u00eenement, le d\u00eener \u00e9tait assur\u00e9 par Fuel for Gold, programme de nutrition bas\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Calgary. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un menu pr\u00e9par\u00e9 par des di\u00e9t\u00e9tistes et des chefs professionnels, le programme Fuel for Gold offre des repas frais et nutritifs aux athl\u00e8tes et aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves, et les profits servent \u00e0 appuyer les athl\u00e8tes canadiens qui s\u2019entra\u00eenent \u00e0 l\u2019Institut canadien du sport de Calgary.<\/p>\n<p>Malgr\u00e9 l\u2019aide, il est difficile de manger beaucoup d\u2019aliments nutritifs lorsque l\u2019on s\u2019entra\u00eene et que l\u2019on doit respecter un budget serr\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Les aliments nutritifs sont co\u00fbteux. Sans financement ad\u00e9quat, il est difficile d\u2019acheter des produits nutritifs de haute qualit\u00e9. Si vous ne nourrissez pas votre corps ad\u00e9quatement, vous pourriez lui administrer les mauvais aliments\u00a0\u00bb, pr\u00e9cise-t-elle.<\/p>\n<p>Friande de sucre, admet-elle sans g\u00eane, Natalie suit un menu d\u2019avant-match assez simple. Comme beaucoup de ses co\u00e9quipi\u00e8res, elle choisit une prot\u00e9ine maigre, en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du poulet, avec des p\u00e2tes ou du riz brun et une grosse portion de l\u00e9gumes. En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, on mange environ trois heures avant le match et on ajoute peut-\u00eatre \u00e0 cela une petite collation un peu avant la mise au jeu.\u00a0On avait alors r\u00e9duit nos heures d\u2019entra\u00eenement, mais l\u2019horaire \u00e9tait tout aussi \u00e9puisant en raison des d\u00e9placements\u00a0\u00bb, relate Nathalie.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat qu\u2019elle porte \u00e0 sa nutrition et \u00e0 sa sant\u00e9 va bien au-del\u00e0 de son exp\u00e9rience comme athl\u00e8te. \u00c9tudiante-athl\u00e8te d\u00e9cor\u00e9e de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Ohio State, elle a re\u00e7u un dipl\u00f4me en science de l\u2019alimentation et en nutrition du programme pr\u00e9m\u00e9dical en 2012.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0J\u2019ai toujours aim\u00e9 les sciences.\u00a0La nutrition m\u2019int\u00e9ressait parce qu\u2019elle concordait bien avec mes champs d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat en mati\u00e8re d\u2019\u00e9ducation et ma carri\u00e8re athl\u00e9tique\u00a0\u00bb, explique-t-elle.<\/p>\n<p>Dans un avenir rapproch\u00e9, Natalie envisage de se concentrer sur sa carri\u00e8re de hockeyeuse. C\u2019est une joueuse avant des plus comp\u00e9tentes chez les Furies de Toronto, de la Ligue canadienne de hockey f\u00e9minin, et elle poursuit toujours son engagement aupr\u00e8s de l\u2019\u00e9quipe nationale.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0La m\u00e9daille d\u2019or gagn\u00e9e \u00e0 Sotchi a \u00e9t\u00e9 une exp\u00e9rience extraordinaire. Le processus qui a pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 les Jeux a \u00e9t\u00e9 le travail le plus difficile que j\u2019avais eu \u00e0 accomplir jusque-l\u00e0, mais il en a valu plus que la peine.
