Leah Ferguson made her Olympic debut at London 2012 having never competed at a senior world championship. Callahan earned her ticket to London by dethroning former world championship medallist Ohenewa Akuffo in the 72kg division at the Canadian trials. Callahan had been aiming to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games but instead finished 18th at London 2012.

Ferguson has had her share of international success, winning gold at the 2011 Pan American Championships following silver in 2010.  She has also reached the podium in other notable events such as the Dave Schultz Memorial International as well as World Cup and Grand Prix competitions.

Born in Newfoundland, Ferguson moved west with her parents when she was three and was raised in Mackenzie, BC until she moved to Calgary after high school to pursue her wrestling career.  Ferguson had started wrestling when she was 13 but became more serious about the sport in her second year of university competition.  Ferguson’s grandparents still live in Newfoundland.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts in communication and culture from the University of Calgary in 2012 where she was a three-time CIS champion.
