Canadians to catch – Day 8

Triathlon
It’s race day for Paula Findlay. After surging to the top of the international Triathlon scene over the past two years, this Edmonton native and Victoria resident will toe the line at Hyde Park at 4 a.m. EST alongside teammate Kathy Tremblay of Montreal to tackle the 1.5km swim, 43km bike and 10km run and the Olympic field.

Trampoline
Trampoline veteran Karen Cockburn, of Toronto, will represent the Maple Leaf again to compete for gold in her fourth Olympic Games. The three-time medallist will be joined in the individual event by King City’s Rosie MacLennan who will be eyeing the podium in her second Games. Action begins at 9 a.m. in the one-day final.

Badminton
In Badminton action Alexandra Bruce of Toronto and Michelle Li of Markham, ON, will face Valeria Sorokina and Nina Vislova of Russia in a battle for the bronze at Wimbledon courts. First service is slated for 5:30 a.m. EST.

Athletics
Sitting in third place after four events on Day 1 of the heptathlon competition with 3,903 points, London ON’s Jessica Zelinka will look to keep the pressure on in the final day of the two-day event. She goes to work at 5:05 a.m. EST.

Track Cycling
At the Velodrome Saturday the women’s team will look to deliver in the team pursuit one-day final. Victoria B.C.’s Gillian Carleton, Coquitlam, B.C.’s Jasmine Glaesser and Edmonton’s AB’s Tara Whitten will look to deliver after earning a fourth-place spot in qualifying. They hit the track at 12:42 p.m. EST.

Swimming
After an encouraging preliminary swim Friday, Victoria B.C.’s Ryan Cochrane will get on the blocks in his premier event, the 1,500m freestyle. The 2008 bronze medallist won his heat in a time of 14:49.31 to earn his right to fight for the top of the podium. Cochrane swims at 2:26 p.m. EST.
