Podium battle heats up in moguls
Olympic champion Alex Bilodeau (Rosemere, QC) has captured two world cup medals in the span of 24 hours after placing at the top of the podium in both the moguls on Friday and dual moguls on Saturday in Sweden. Mikael Kingsbury (Deux-Montages, QC) captured bronze and silver, respectively, in the same events.
Bilodeau said that he knew Kingsbury, the FIS yellow bib holder, would be his toughest competition heading into the World Cup.
“Every time it’s super tight between us,” he said. “It could go either way.”
On Friday, it was Bilodeau who took the only moguls event Kingsbury has failed to win in a season that included a world championship title.
Kingsbury, who remains the overall points leader for moguls on the FIS circuit, was disappointed with the result on Saturday, but happy with his performance.
“Against [Bilodeau] it’s never easy,” said Kingsbury. “So I pushed to the max, and Alex for sure did a bigger air on the top, but I got him by half a second in speed.”
On the women’s side, Montreal’s Chloe Dufour-Lapointe won bronze on Saturday in the dual moguls event.
Maltais Secures Top Spot in Crystal Globe Race
Dominique Maltais (Petite-Rivière-St-Francois, QC) captured silver in snowboardcross today at the World Cup in Sweden to secure enough points for the Crystal Globe title with one event in the season to go. The title is Maltais’ third consecutive Crystal Globe and the fourth of her career.
