Canadians had awaken this morning, Day 9, with Dominique Maltais winning Silver in Snowboard Cross and Jan Hudec winning Bronze in Super-G! Both of these medals have a similar inspirational story which all Canadians who face challenges in life can relate to: dedication and perseverance pay off!
Canadian Cowboy, Jan Hudec, won Silver at the 2007 World Championship before persevering through a string of injuries that didn’t see him return to Worlds competition until 2009-10. He made his first Olympic appearance at Vancouver 2010. Hudec won Bronze in Super-G in a time of 1:18.67. Teammates Morgan Pridy finished 10th with a time of 1:19.19 and Manuel Osborne-Paradis finished 24th in 1:20.19.
Dominique Maltais‘ Silver medal win in Women’s Snowboard Cross is a story of dedication. Coming off a Bronze medal in Turin 2006, Maltais suffered a devastating crash causing internal injuries at Vancouver 2010. Determined to reach the podium, Dominique devoted the next 3 years to training for her return in Sochi.
The men’s Hockey team won 2-1 in overtime vs Team Finland, improving their record to 3-0. Carey Price got the win in net while Drew Doughty scored both goals who leads Team Canada with 4 goals.
Team Brad Jacobs won two very challenging back to back matches in the same day with an 8-6 win versus Team USA and 9-8 win versus Team China to finish the round robin 7-2, currently seeded in 2nd place. Team Jennifer Jones also had their toughest match of the Sochi Games vs Team USA, winning 7-6. Jones Rink is undefeated 8-0 with one more round robin game tomorrow vs Team Korea.
