Canada-Cuba split as World League continues in Havana

Canada scooped up three points in game one but lost momentum on Saturday, falling short to Cuba.
Friday’s 3-1 victory and Saturday’s early success in the first two sets allowed Team Canada to pick up four points in Havana this weekend. The team leads Pool C with a total of 22 points.
Fuelled by the home crowd, Cuba improved their defence and fought back on Saturday. Top scorer and captain, Rolando Cepeda, secured 25 points for the team. The match ended in a five-set loss for Canada (25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 12-15).

Playing all five rounds, top performer Steven Marshall earned 17 points for Canada, while Adam Simac scored 14.

Canada maintains a healthy 22 point pool C lead over Bulgaria (12), Argentina (10) and Cuba (7). On Saturday Bulgaria played their first match against Argentina, picking up two points in Salta. The teams will play game two on Sunday.
