Ring time for Canada’s Rio 2016 Olympians
A day of celebration in the nation’s capital for members of the Rio 2016 Olympic Team was made even more special with the presentation of commemorative rings.
A national partner since 2007, Teck Resources teamed up with Canadian Olympic licensing partner Hillberg & Berk to design the rings, made of .925 sterling silver. The jewelry company created a gender neutral design that would be timeless and wearable by the athletes for years to come. Thus, the focus is on the Canadian Olympic Team emblem so it can serve as a constant reminder to the athletes of their Olympic journey. The rings maintain continuity with those given to the athletes of Sochi 2014, also by Teck, with Hillberg & Berk’s use of oxidized silver allowing the team logo to stand out.
More than three kilograms of silver went into the manufacturing of the Olympic team rings. And as an indication of the varied nature of the team, from the tiniest artistic gymnasts to the tallest volleyball players, the rings were forged in sizes 4 to 19.
