Diving Trials: Ware, Abel, Fofana qualify for Tokyo
The Canadian Diving Trials continued on Wednesday in Toronto with with three divers officially qualifying for Tokyo 2020.
With two Olympic spots up for grabs in the women’s 3m final, it was Pamela Ware and Olympic medallist Jennifer Abel booking their tickets to Tokyo.
Ware took gold with 716.10 points while Abel finished close behind at 700.65. Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu finished third with a score of 589.50.
After finishing fourth and seventh respectively in the event at Rio 2016, both Abel and Ware will be aiming for the podium in Tokyo.
The qualification gives Abel her second event for Tokyo as she has also qualified in the synchronized 3m alongside Citrini-Beaulieu.

Meanwhile 17-year-old Cédric Fofana took first in the men’s 3m with a final score of 842.40, snagging the sole Olympic qualification spot.
Francois Imbeau-Dulac finished second with 819.90 points while Thomas Ciprick scored 782.55 for third.
The teen from Montreal, Quebec recently won gold in the men’s open 3m event at the 2021 FINA Virtual Diving Grand Prix in late May. He is now headed off to Tokyo for his first ever Olympic appearance.
The Canadian Diving Trials wrap up on Thursday with the women’s and men’s 10m finals.
