Eric Lindros

Biography

Well known for centering the Philadelphia Flyers’ “Legion of Doom” lineup, Eric Lindros developed a reputation for being a physical forward with good hands. Lindros competed in three IIHF World Junior Championships, winning gold medals in 1990 and 1991. During the 1991 Worlds, he scored 11 goals in just seven games. Making his first Olympic appearance at Albertville 1992, Lindros scored four goals in the tournament to help Canada earn a silver medal. This was Canada’s first podium finish in Olympic ice hockey since 1968.

Lindros did not disappoint when representing Canada. After being named captain for the 1998 Winter Games, Lindros scored two goals in six games. During the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Team Canada defeated Team USA to claim its first Olympic hockey gold medal in 50 years.

Lindros was selected first overall in the 1991 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Quebec Nordiques. Once traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, Lindros became one of the most feared players in the NHL. He scored over 40 goals in each of his first two seasons. During his 1994-95 season with the Flyers, he received both the Ted Lindsay Award and the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP. Lindros continued his NHL career to play for the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Dallas Stars before retirement in 2007.
