James Steacy

Biography

James Steacy is one of the top hammer throwers in Canadian history. A two-time Olympian, in his debut at Beijing 2008 he became the first Canadian to make an Olympic hammer throw final in 84 years. He had set the Canadian record at 79.13m in May 2008. Both results came after an eventful 2007 in which he had missed the final at the IAAF World Championships by one spot, but won the gold medal at the Pan Am Games in Rio. Steacy is a two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, winning gold at Glasgow 2014 after taking silver at Melbourne 2006. He has dominated the Canadian Championships, winning every hammer throw national title from 2004 to 2014, except 2010 when he was injured.
