Biography
Jarome Iginla is a three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic gold medallist. At Vancouver 2010, he recorded five goals and two assists, but none more important than the feed to Sidney Crosby that led to the “Golden Goal” overtime winner against the United States. Iginla had previously won gold at Salt Lake City 2002, where he notched three goals and one assist, including two goals in the 5-2 victory over the United States in the final. He also competed at Turin 2006.
Iginla was a gold medallist with Team Canada at the 1996 IIHF World Junior Championship where he was the tournament’s outstanding forward. The following year he helped Team Canada win gold at the IIHF World Championship. In 2004, he suited up for the victorious Canadian team at the World Cup of Hockey.
Iginla enjoyed a 20-year career in the NHL, highlighted by an outstanding 2001-02 season when he won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy as the leading goal scorer, the Art Ross Trophy as the leading point scorer, and the Lester B. Pearson Award as league MVP as voted by his fellow players. Iginla played 16 seasons with the Calgary Flames, from his debut in 1995 to the 2012-13 season when he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He recorded 625 goals and 675 assists in 1554 NHL games. As captain of the Flames, he led them to the 2004 Stanley Cup Final.
