Ken Farmer

Biography

Ken Farmer played four years with the McGill University Redman, beginning in 1930. In 1935, while playing for the Montreal Victorias, he was chosen to join the Port Arthur Bearcats which would compete at the 1936 Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In eight games, he scored 10 goals to help Canada win the silver medal. In 1940 he joined the Canadian forces, serving with the Royal Montreal Regiment and the Manitoba Dragoons during World War II.

As sports administrator, he served as President of the Canadian Olympic Association from 1953 to 1961, chaired the National Advisory Council on Fitness and Amateur Sports from 1962 to 1965, and helped organize the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. From 1977 to 1983 he was President of the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada. He governed the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame for a decade, from 1980 to 1990, and was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 1982. Farmer was inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1971.
