Reid Slides to Bronze at Worlds

Calgary’s Sarah Reid captured her first Skeleton World Championship medal today when she raced to a bronze medal in a combined time of 4 minutes, 38.60 seconds on the Olympia track in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Reid improved her time drastically moving up from eighth place after her first run to finish on the podium behind gold medallist Shelley Rudman of Britain and silver medallist Noelle Pikus-Pace of the United States.

“I’m absolutely thrilled. I have no words,” said Reid. “To be truthful, I thought about a medal before the race, but being eighth in the first run I thought it wasn’t possible. Then I put down three good runs and I am just so happy.”

Canada placed three women in the top-12 with 2006 Olympic bronze medallist Mellisa Hollingsworth of Eckville, AB, finishing fifth and Cassie Hawrysh of Brandon, MB, in 12th.
