Szabados’ pro hockey experience continues with new Cottonmouths t-shirt

They say you’re not a pro until someone’s wearing your number on a t-shirt.

Hockey fans can now order a SPHL Columbus Cottonmouths’ tee featuring Olympic Champion goaltender Shannon Szabados.

Today the Cottonmouths announced the new threads on their twitter feed, and the team website said the t-shirts will be ready to ship March 28th.

The t-shirt is navy with the Cottonmouths snake logo on the front, over a faded maple leaf. The back features Szabados’ pro #40 since her Team Canada #1 is occupied by other Snakes goalie Andrew Loewen. She tweeted that she chose #40 because of childhood memories of Oilers’ great Bill Ranford in Detroit.

Szabados has now been in Columbus since March 12th and lost her first start 4-3 to the Knoxville Ice Bears on March 15th.

She is the first woman to ever play in the ten year history of the Southern Professional Hockey League. She joins fellow Canadian Manon Rhéaume, and American Erin Whitten as some of history’s goaltenders who have suited up against pro men. Szabados also participated in Edmonton Oilers’ practice at the beginning of the month.

Columbus plays their final two games of the regular season this Friday and Saturday.
