Canadian women take team pursuit World Cup title in Colombia

Canadian women are off to a roaring start at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup with a team pursuit win in Cali, Colombia on Friday night.

Team Canada consisting of Allison Beveridge, Jasmin Glaesser, Kirsti Lay and Stephanie Roorda took first place in a time of four minutes and 20.139 seconds, comfortably ahead of the United States (4:25.826) in a rematch between the countries that went for gold in the Pan American Games this summer at the Milton Velodrome.

Canada – the TO2015 gold winner – had the second fastest first round time to the Americans, qualifying both countries to the 1 v. 2 final round ahead of Great Britain, which beat China in the 3 v. 4 contest for third place.

Competition will continue with individual races for this Canadian group through Sunday.

There are three UCI World Cup stops in the season. The next one will be in Cambridge, New Zealand in December and the final stop is in January 2016 with Hong Kong as host.
