Team Canada had an explosive Day 14 in Sochi, winning 4 medals: 2 Gold, Silver and Bronze! While today’s attention was mainly focused on the Men’s events, Canada won Gold and Silver medals in Women’s Freestyle Ski Cross. Men’s Curling won Gold, 500-metre Short Track won Bronze and the Hockey Team beat arch rival Team USA in the semifinals. Canada surpassed Germany and the United States in the overall standings, now ranked 3rd with 9 Gold, 10 Silver and 5 Bronze medals.

Canadians continue their domination on the slopes of the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. Today it was British Columbia skiers Marielle Thompson from Whistler winning Gold, and Kelsey Serwa from Kelowna winning Silver in Women’s Freestyle Ski Cross.

Men’s Curling Team Brad Jacobs representing Sault Ste. Marie had their best game of the Olympics as they dominated Great Britain for the entire game, winning 9-3 in 8 ends to earn Canada their 3rd Gold medal in Curling. Men’s Curling Gold medalists are: Brad Jacobs (skip), Ryan Harnden, E.J. Harnden, Ryan Fry and alternate Caleb Flaxey. First time in Canadian history where both our Men’s and Women’s Curling won Gold in the same Winter Games.

Interesting turn of events in Men’s 500m Short Track Speed Skating for Canada. Today’s Bronze medal winner, Charle Cournoyer, was at home in Boucherville Quebec watching television when Charles Hamelin won gold in the same event in Vancouver 2010. Twenty-two year old Cournoyer in his Olympic debut didn’t back down from the competitive Chinese and Russian skaters in the final race.

Against all odds, our Men’s Team Canada represented our country’s pride in hockey by dominating the much-anticipated semifinal match up versus arch rivals and the best Olympic team in the round robin, Team USA! The lone goal scored in the 2nd period by Jamie Benn, who deflected a pass from Jay Bouwmeester, was all that was needed to advance to the Gold medal game to defend Canada’s Olympic title on Sunday morning at 7:00 am EST.
