Jay Lyon scores bronze in Pan Am archery

Winnipeg’s Jay Lyon won a bronze medal in men’s archery after defeating American Zach Garrett.

Lyon won the head-to-head battle 6-0, including three ’10s’ for a score of 30 in the final set. It is his first individual Pan Am medal to go with a team silver from 2007 in Rio. Lyon is also a Commonwealth Games medallist and 2008 Olympian.

In a set each archer has three arrows to shoot the highest score. The winner of each set receives two points. First to six wins.

The 29-year-old fell to American Brady Ellison in a semifinal. Ellison went on to lose 6-4 in the gold medal match to Mexico’s Luis Alvarez.
