Bellemare wins World Cup ski slopestyle title at Pyeongchang test event

Alex Bellemare made the most of a FIS Freestyle World Cup event in ski slopestyle by winning the competition that was being doubly used as a test for the next Olympic Winter Games this weekend.

With a little less than two years to Pyeongchang 2018, the Canadian beat the men’s field with a score of 93.60 at Bokwang Phoenix Park in South Korea.

Bellemare, 22, fell on his first two runs but under pressure he lifted his fate from 10th place to first after a series of stunning elements on his third attempt in the final. That final run was judged to be 0.60 points better than Henrik Harlaut of Sweden and 0.80 ahead of New Zealander Josiah Wells in a tight finish at the top.

It was Bellemare’s first career World Cup victory of his career. He is seventh in the overall season standings with one more event to go.
