Tattoos on Canada’s Rio 2016 Olympic hopefuls
Self expression, motivation and passion at its finest.
That’s what Team Canada athletes represent and the same effort that goes into their craft, is poured into their permanent ink. Here are a few tattoos to look for at Rio 2016 (note: there are a few Olympic rings).
Jen Kish
Keep a lookout during rugby sevens for women’s captain Jen Kish and her double sleeve and chest tattoos, plus a large Rugby Canada logo on her calf.

Sprinter Crystal Emmanuel has a wicked butterfly tattoo on her left thigh. Aside from the individual events Emmanuel is a part of Athletics Canada’s women’s 4x100m relay team that has already qualified for Rio.
Mark de Jonge
This one will probably be covered but on the off-chance that it isn’t, look for the Olympic rings on kayaker Mark de Jonge, the double world champion heading to Brazil for a shot at his second Olympic medal.
Hilary Caldwell

Swimmer Hilary Caldwell has two tattoos on her upper left arm: a mermaid and the Olympic rings. Caldwell is a 200m backstroke specialist, winning world championship bronze in 2013.
Mike Fuailefau
Rugby sevens player Mike Fuailefau has multiple tattoos on each arm. He will be hoping to qualify for Rio when the men’s rugby sevens team goes all-out at the last chance tournament this spring.
Sarah Wells
London 2012 Olympian Sarah Wells has the rings on her wrist. She was one of the faces of TO2015, helping to promote the Pan Am Games in her hometown last summer, where she won silver in the 400m hurdles.
Meaghan Benfeito
Diver Meaghan Benfeito shows some sibling love with her lovely tattoo. Benfeito is a medallist from London 2012 and one of the Fab IV female divers hoping to make a podium splash in Rio.
Ryan Cochrane
Swimmer Ryan Cochrane has the Olympic rings on his back left shoulder. Cochrane is a two-time Olympic medallist in the 1500m freestyle from Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Should he get on the podium in Rio, Cochrane will become the first Canadian win individual swimming medals at three Olympic Games.
Stephanie Labbe
Goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe‘s half sleeve often pops out from under her jersey during Canadian women’s team matches. Canada starts its Olympic football matches on August 4 in Sao Paulo.
Andre De Grasse
World bronze medallist in the 100m, Andre De Grasse, will be one to watch at Rio 2016. Team Canada fans will want to see his sleeve tattoo as much as possible, with the country’s fastest man hoping to compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
Jason Burnett
You’ll probably only catch the edges of this beauty on Jason Burnett as he flips in the air during his trampoline solo in Brazil. Burnett is an Olympic medallist from Beijing 2008 where he won a trampoline silver.
