Canadian Roundup: It was a gold medal weekend
Team Canada started December on top of the World Cup podium, winning a total of five gold medals over the weekend.
They also picked up some silver and bronze along the way.
Speed Skating – Long Track

Vincent De Haître and Ivanie Blondin both raced to gold at the ISU World Cup in Kazakhstan. Sochi 2014 Olympian De Haître took the first victory, winning the 1000m on Saturday. Blondin won her second mass start World Cup of the season on Sunday, showing the field exactly why she’s the event’s defending world champion.
Luge

For the first time in Canadian history the luge team won a complete set of medals – gold, silver and bronze – at a World Cup event. The nation’s team of Kimberley McRae, Sam Edney, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith raced to relay gold in Lake Placid. McRae enjoyed another podium appearance with teammate Alex Gough, after they placed second and third respectively in the women’s competition.
Bobsleigh

At the home of Vancouver 2010, Kaillie Humphries and Cynthia Appiah made their IBSF World Cup debut as partners in women’s bobsleigh. The pair not only finished their first race together in winning fashion, but set a new Whistler start record en route to gold.

Elisabeth Vathje won the first BMW IBSF World Cup title of the season, in front of home fans in Whistler. The Canadian registered the two fastest runs in the competition, to secure her second World Cup title at home, the first came in 2014.
