Adrian Liu

Biography

Adrian LiuAdrian Liu is one of the leaders of the Canadian badminton team. With partner Derrick Ng, the two are a force to be reckoned with in men’s doubles in Pan American competition. One of the highlights was winning bronze at the 2011 Pan American Games. In 2014 the duo won the Pan American Championships, defeating the top seeds in the final. They successfully defended their titles from 2013 and 2012 when they had been the number one seeds. Liu’s career-high doubles ranking is 25th, achieved in March 2011.

Family: Parents Steven and Katherine Liu… Younger sister Giselle… Getting into the Sport: Starting playing badminton recreationally at age 16, began training fulltime at age 22… Initially played for fun but then noticed a major difference in his weight and fitness level… Credits coach Ronne Runtulalo for molding him into the player he is today… Outside Interests: Graduated from Langara College in 2007 with a diploma in Human Kinetics… Enjoys playing “some intense UNO”, eating and video games… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: “Take the pain”… Good luck charm is a Chinese necklace/sports voodoo key chain doll/ little light bulb key chain that are attached together… Collects stickers from around the world and sticks them on his luggage… Nickname: Liu…
