Baptiste Brochu

Biography

Baptiste Brochu spent just one season on the national development team before moving up to the national team for snowboard cross. He competed at the world junior championships in 2013 and 2014 before making his first world championship appearance in 2015.

Brochu debuted on the World Cup circuit in December 2013, earning his first podium and first win in Veysonnaz, Switzerland in March 2016. His second career podium came with a third-place finish in Bansko, Bulgaria in February 2017. Brochu was ranked in the top-10 of the World Cup snowboard cross standings in 2015-16 and 2016-17. In 2014-15 he won the overall Nor-Am Cup title for snowboard cross with podiums in five of eight events, including three victories. In early March 2017, he broke his ankle, causing him to miss the world championships and the 2017-18 World Cup season opener in Argentina in early September. He returned to competition when the circuit resumed in Val Thorens, France in December.

Brochu was set to make his Olympic debut at PyeongChang 2018 but an awkward landing in training two days before his event left him injured and unable to compete.

A little more about Baptiste…

Getting into the Sport: Was introduced to snowboard by his father when he was 8… He started out in freestyle before competing in SBX at age 15 just because his home mountain was having a race… He did well so he decided to race some more and by the end of the year was recruited to the Quebec provincial team… Outside Interests: Enjoys mountain biking… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: En cas de doute Gaz au boute (When in doubt just forge ahead)… Once had to write a research paper in high school about a future career so he did his on professional snowboarders…
