Chris Winter
Biography
After being crowned the Canadian junior champion in the 1500m steeplechase, 3000m and 3000m steeplechase, Chris Winter won a bronze medal in the 2000m steeplechase at the 2003 IAAF World Youth Championships. He continued his athletic career at the University of Oregon where he excelled with four top-five finishes in the steeplechase at the Pac-10 Championships, including a victory in 2009. He made the NCAA finals twice in 2008 and 2009. After competing in the junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2004 and 2005, Winter competed in the senior race in 2013. That same year he made his debut at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, competing in the 3000m steeplechase. In 2014, Winter finished sixth in the steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and won the Canadian cross country title. Winter stood on the steeplechase podium at the Canadian championships in 2012 (bronze), 2013 (silver), and 2014 (bronze) after missing most of the 2010 and 2011 seasons with injuries. He set a personal best of 8:26.55 in the 3000m steeplechase in July 2015 to go under the Olympic entry standard for Rio 2016 where he made his Olympic debut.
