Daniel Jansen VanDoorn

Biography

Daniel Jansen VanDoorn is a two-time CIS Champion with Trinity Western University who also helped Canada to a fifth place finish at the 2013 World University Games. In 2014, he was part of Tourcoing Lille Metropole’s remarkable comeback from sitting in 12th place at the halfway mark of the season to winning the French Pro B Championship, earning the team advancement to Pro A in 2015. At the 2015 NORCECA Championship, Jansen VanDoorn was named Second Best Middle Blocker as Canada won the gold medal. VanDoorn competed with Canada in the FIVB World League in 2015 and 2016. The team won Group 2 at the latter, earning a spot in the elite Group 1 for 2017.

Getting to know…

Family: Parents Marvin and Carolyn… One of five siblings along with Josh, Dayna, Kara and Micah… Older sister Dayna competed at two editions of the World University Games in volleyball… Older sister Kara won gold at the 2009 Canada Games in beach volleyball… Getting into the Sport: Began playing volleyball at age 14 and always loved the combination of precision, teamwork and strategy as well as the quick speeds in short sequences… Had a poster of former national team member Sébastien Ruette when he was younger which inspired him to attempt to play at the highest level… Outside Interests: Enjoys cooking, travelling, watching movies, reading, learning languages, hiking, longboarding… Graduated from Trinity Western University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Leadership and Management… Odds and Ends: Nickname: JVD… Inspired by former NHL player Theo Fleury because he was an athlete who succeeded against all odds… Favourite motto: Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle…
