Eric Mitchell

Biography

Eric Mitchell represented Canada internationally in ski jumping from 2008 to 2013, including at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. At 17-years-old, he was the youngest man on the Canadian Olympic team in Vancouver and one of the youngest in the entire ski jumping field. He retired from ski jumping in 2013 to focus on pursuing his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Calgary where he graduated in May 2016. He is currently developing his professional experience for his CPA Designation at EY after successfully writing the Cumulative Final Exam in September 2018.

On December 2, 2014 he was introduced as a founding ambassador for the COC’s One Team initiative which he remains committed to today. In 2015 the IOC appointed him as a Young Change-Maker (YCM) for Team Canada for the Lillehammer 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG). This is a role which has transformed him into a mentor for the next generation of YCM’s from Canada and around the world.

As a Young Change-Maker, Eric has committed to developing young athletes as leaders on and off of the field of play. Pass the Torch is a program created by him to equip YOG athletes to give back to their communities in meaningful ways. This program is tailored to YOG athletes who want to be more involved in their communities by spreading the values and principles of Olympism, and help them realize their full potential in sport and influence future generations.

GETTING TO KNOW…

Mitchell is a passionate supporter of equality and inclusivity in the classrooms, locker rooms and boardrooms of Canada, utilizing his experiences and stories from sport to connect people with the values of excellence, friendship and respect. Eric has been invited to share his message of inclusion and youth empowerment at events such as the 2016 One Young World Summit in Ottawa, the 2018 Gates Foundations Goalkeepers event in New York and a 2019 meeting of sport ministers from UNESCO member states in Russia.

2013: Won Canadian national title in the large hill in Whistler… 2011: Finished first in the FIS Cup normal hill event in Szczyrk, Poland… Finished a career-high 15th in the Continental Cup large hill event in PyeongChang, South Korea… 2009: Finished 30th in the Continental Cup normal hill event in Otepaa, Estonia to qualify for Vancouver 2010…
