Eric O’Dell

Biography

Eric O’Dell made his Olympic debut at PyeongChang 2018 where he scored one goal and added an assist as Canada won the bronze medal. In his second Olympic appearance at Beijing 2022, O’Dell recorded two goals and three assists to tie for second on the team in points.

In the leadup to PyeongChang 2018, O’Dell played for Team Canada at the Channel One Cup, Karjala Cup, and Sochi Hockey Open in 2017. O’Dell returned to the national team for the 2021 Channel One Cup in preparation for Beijing 2022. He previously wore the maple leaf at the 2008 World U18 Championship, helping Canada win the gold medal.

O’Dell played his junior hockey with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves from 2007-08 to 2010-11. He was on the OHL All-Star team in the CHL Canada/Russia Super Series in 2009 and 2010. He was selected in the second round, 39^th overall, by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. After being acquired by the Winnipeg Jets, he spent most of four seasons (2011-12 to 2014-15) with their AHL affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps. He played in 41 NHL games for the Jets from 2013-14 to 2014-15, scoring three goals and adding five assists. After splitting the 2015-16 season between the AHL’s Binghamton Senators and Rochester Americans, he moved to the KHL in 2016-17, playing three seasons with Sochi HC. He made stops in Magnitogorsk (2019-20) and Novosibirsk (2020-21) before signing with Dynamo Moscow for 2021-22.
