Gilbert Brulé

Biography

In his Olympic debut at PyeongChang 2018, forward Gilbert Brulé helped Team Canada win the bronze medal. In the leadup to PyeongChang 2018, Brulé played for Team Canada at the Karjala Cup and Sochi Hockey Open in 2017. He’s played 299 NHL games for the Columbus Blue Jackets (2005-08), Edmonton Oilers (2008-11), and Phoenix Coyotes (2011-14). He has been playing in the KHL since 2014-15 and spent the 2017-18 season with the Chelyabinsk Traktor and Kunlun Red Star. Brulé played his junior hockey with the WHL’s Vancouver Giants, suiting up for 164 games from 2003 to 2006. He was named to the CHL’s All-Rookie team for 2003-04 when he was also WHL Rookie of the Year. He was the WHL Playoff MVP when the Giants became WHL Champions in 2006. Brulé was drafted sixth overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Getting into the Sport: Started playing hockey at age 4 because his father got him into it… Outside Interests: Enjoys music, playing guitar and singing, fishing, crabbing, hiking, and swimming… Odds and Ends: In 2011 picked up two hitchhikers in West Vancouver that turned out to be Bono (lead singer of U2) and his assistant; in return he was given backstage passes to the U2 concert… Inspired by John Lennon’s views on society and politics…
