Biography

Hillary ElliotHillary Elliott allowed herself to dream big about her future in modern pentathlon once she achieved the standards to be named to the national team in 2015. She had already been competing internationally since 2013 in continental youth events. In 2014, she competed at both the UIPM Youth World Championships and the UIPM Junior World Championships. She made her UIPM World Cup debut in February 2015 and achieved a career highlight at the fourth stop of the season in Kecskemet, Hungary when she placed sixth in fencing during the qualification round. That helped her to hold onto a top-10 placement in the preliminaries until the combined event. It was her best ever performance against top level senior athletes.

PERSONAL

Family: Parents Allan and Nancy Elliott… Older brother Andrew… Older sister Mikaela… Both siblings were competitive swimmers and triathletes… Getting into the Sport: Competed in swimming and Kids of Steel triathlons at age 5… Did her first pentathlon at age 8 after starting riding lessons and being introduced to the sport through the Pony Club… Loves the variety of sports as well as the physical, mental and time management challenges… Outside Interests: Used to be in French Immersion at Woodstock District High School… Finishing high school via online courses because she missed so much class time while at international training camps and competitions… Plans to graduate with her classmates in June 2016… Enjoys skiing, snowboarding and water skiing… Passionate about animals and their well-being; has worked with various organizations and done high school projects on preventing animal abuse… Would like to pursue law enforcement with the RCMP or CSIS or Canadian Special Forces… Odds and Ends: Nickname: Hill… Inspired by teammates Melanie McCann and Donna Vakalis… Pre-competition ritual includes visualization and potatoes… Likes to trade gear (such as shirts and swim caps) with athletes from other countries… Favourite motto: “Believe you can and you’re halfway there!”
