Jaret Llewellyn

Biography

A member of the national team for nearly three decades, Jaret Llewellyn has to be included in any discussion about the best water skiers of all time. He has 117 Pro Tour wins, broken 11 world records and won nine world championship titles to go with his 10 Pan Am Games medals. He also has 26 medals at the Pan Am Championships, 22 of which are gold, and is a five-time World Cup jump champion. At his third Pan Am Games at Santo Domingo 2003, he was proud to serve as Canada’s Opening Ceremony flag bearer. He is the current world record holder for ski flying (91.1m set in 2000) and overall score (2818.01 set in 2002). Llewellyn has returned to competition after undergoing hip surgery in June 2013 and ACL surgery that December. He’d also undergone ACL surgery in 2010 and 2011.

Family: Parents Don and Chris Llewellyn… Older brother Kreg is a professional water skier and coach… Wife Britta… Son Dorien (born May 1996)… Getting into the Sport: Started water skiing at age 6… Had been snow skiing since age 4 but was afraid of sharks in fresh water lakes… At a party hosted by his parents at their cabin, they challenged the kids who hadn’t water skied before to try it… After he saw the first kid go out, he was not going to be the last… First competed at age 9, represented Canada at age 14 and turned pro at age 18 instead of joining the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders as a goalie… Outside Interests: Enjoys playing ice hockey, snow skiing, videography, photography… Support three charities: In His Wakes, Cody’s Angels, Korey’s Krew… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: “If you aren’t going all the way, why go at all!”… Always travels with his own strawberry jam… Nickname: Little Germ…
