Josée Grand’Maître

Biography

Having worn the maple leaf more than 35 times in international competition, Josée Grand’Maître has represented Canada at the world level more than any other racquetball player. She is the only Canadian player to have participated in all four Pan American Games that included racquetball, the highlight of which was her bronze medal in doubles at Santo Domingo 2003. She also competed at Mar del Plata 1995, Winnipeg 1999 and Guadalajara 2011.

A three-time Canadian women’s singles champion (1996, 1999, 2001), Grand’Maître is a true force in doubles, having won an astounding 14 national titles. A seven-time world championship medallist in doubles, Grand’Maître also has a singles bronze medal as well as a team silver and team bronze from the global competition. As proof of her longevity, 24 years separate her first world championship medal in 1988 and her most recent in 2012.

Throughout her career, Grand’Maître has worked to support other athletes through her involvement with the Canadian Sport Centre Montreal. She is currently the Director of Athlete and Training Group Services at the Institut national du sport du Québec.

Grand’Maître earned her undergraduate degree in kinesiology and a certificate in administration from the University of Ottawa.
