Josh Kirkpatrick
Biography
All his life, Josh Kirkpatrick had been an athlete who dreamed of going to the Olympic Games. An exceptional track and field athlete in high school and university, he represented Canada in pole vault at the 2009 Jeux de la Francophonie. But after graduation, he left high performance sport behind until a random encounter with a bobsleigh coach while playing rec league slo-pitch.
He attended a talent ID camp in the summer of 2014 and that December made his first World Cup start as a member of Chris Spring’s four-man crew. He was part of history in his world championship debut in 2015 as he pushed for Kaillie Humphries who became the first ever female pilot of a four-man sled at the worlds. Kirkpatrick has continued to be a key contributor to Canada’s four-man sleds on the World Cup circuit.
His career-best result came in December 2016 when he helped push Justin Kripps to a fifth-place finish in Whistler. He matched that result in December 2017 when he was a member of Spring’s crew that finished fifth in Winterberg, Germany.
