Leonard Hutton

golden leaf icon for Hall of Fame

Biography

Despite being the long jump gold and triple jump bronze medalist at the 1930 British Empire Games two years prior to Los Angeles 1932, Lennie Hutton failed to record a mark in the Olympic long jump final finishing in 12th position.

A talented athlete, Hutton excelled in rugby and football during the 1920s and 1930s focusing on the gridiron after his Olympic experience to play for the Montréal Football Club AAA Winged Wheelers and winning the 1931 Grey Cup. Always staying close to athletics, Hutton became the first Canadian to make the varsity track and field team at the University of Notre Dame, where he also played basketball.

Hutton was inducted into the Canadian Amateur Athletic Hall of Fame prior to his death in Montréal in 1976, and Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1977.
