Mack Darragh

Biography

Mack Darragh first represented Canada internationally at the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships where he won the bronze medal in the 200m butterfly. He made his first senior national team in 2014 when he competed at the Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Australia where he made the final of the 200m butterfly. Darragh won both the 100m and 200m butterfly events at the 2016 Canadian Trials. After graduating from Iroquois Ridge High School, Darragh enrolled at the University of Missouri where he is the school’s record holder in the 200 yard butterfly and 200 yard individual medley. He competed at the NCAA Championships in 2013 and 2015, making the final in the 200 yard butterfly at the latter.

Family: Parents Denise and Daniel… Older sister Madison… Getting into Sport: Started swimming competitively at age 7 because he was told that swimming would help his asthma… Had his Olympic dream sparked after watching Michael Phelps make the 2000 US Olympic team as a 15-year-old and knew he wanted to do the same… Outside Interests: Enjoys playing video games, basketball, volleyball, watching movies, snowboarding… Graduated from the University of Missouri in 2016 with a degree in marketing… Odds and Ends: Nicknames: Mack Daddy, Mack Attack, Mackers… Inspired by Usain Bolt because he knows where he comes from and hasn’t forgotten his home or family despite his fame… If he yawns before a race it usually means he will swim well… Favorite motto: “Live your life, love your life”…
