Marie-Pier Préfontaine

Biography

A specialist of the super-G and giant slalom, Marie-Pier Préfontaine competed in her second Olympic Winter Games at Sochi 2014. As an Olympic rookie at Vancouver 2010 she placed 29th in the giant slalom.

Préfontaine made her World Cup debut in December 2006. After competing sporadically on the circuit for several years, she earned her first World Cup finish in November 2009 in the giant slalom in Aspen. Préfontaine had another career breakthrough in February 2011 when she recorded her first top-1o result, finishing ninth in the giant slalom in Arber-Zwiesel, Germany.

Préfontaine debuted at the FIS World Ski Championships in 2009. In her three appearances she had her best results in 2011 when she finished 24th in both the super-G and giant slalom.

Getting to know…

Getting Into Sport: Started skiing at age three…  Her mother would bring her to work where she would ski with the young kids being coached… Outside Interests: Runs a ski scarf business called IGOTSWAGG that she started because she loves fashion and style… She could not ski without her scarf and wanted something unique so she started making her own in fun fabrics… Also made them for teammates and then began selling in stores and online… Now international competitors are also wearing them… Hopes to add more products to her line as a post-skiing career… Enjoys mountain biking, tennis, surfing and paddle boarding… Odds and Ends: Nickname: M-P… Favourite motto: Ski fast, no fear… Always listens to music in her helmet while riding the chair lift, mostly rap and hip hop…
