- Born in Budapest, Hungary but was raised in Lac Beauport, Quebec
- Mother is Alexandra Barré, two-time Olympic medallist winning silver (K-2 500m with Sue Holloway) and bronze medal (K-4 500m) for Canada in 1984
- Her father Denis, competed in canoe-kayak in the 1972 and 1976 Olympic Games (also named to the 1980 Olympic team)
- Her cousin Jean also paddled in the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games
