Richard Hortness


A two-time Olympian, Richard Hortness competed at the London Games as a member of the 4x100m freestyle relay team that finished 10th overall with Brent Hayden, Thomas Gossland and Colin Russell. In 2008, Hortness qualified for the 50m freestyle in Beijing and swam to a personal best.

In 2010, Hortness competed at both the Pan Pacific Championships and Commonwealth Games in the sprint freestyle events. He was also an integral part of the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay.

In 2009, he was selected to compete for Canada at the Universiade in Belgrade,where he swam to a 17th place finish in the 50m freestyle event.

After swimming for a year for the University of Lethbridge he transferred to the University of Nevada Las Vegas, where he helped the Rebels to three conference titles while setting several school and conference records. He graduated from UNLV in 2009 with a Bachelor of Education Secondary Science.
