Sarah-Anne Brault

Biography

An alternate to the 2012 Olympic team before she made her Olympic debut at Rio 2016, Sarah-Anne Brault represented Canada at three world junior championships from 2006 to 2008 and was the junior Pan American champion in 2008. She earned her first senior international victory in 2011 at a Pan American Cup event and was the 2012 Pan American Champion. Also in 2012, she made her World Triathlon Series debut and won her first World Cup medals, taking bronze in Ishigaki and silver in Edmonton. In 2013 she joined the national team but had to fight back from a stress fracture that limited her racing. In 2014 she posted career-best finishes on the World Triathlon Series, finishing fourth in Auckland and seventh in Yokohama, before competing at her first Commonwealth Games. She recorded another top-10 finish in Auckland in 2015. While attending West Virginia University, Brault competed in indoor and outdoor track as well as cross-country and was a Second Team All-American in 2011. She finished second in the 5000m at the 2005 Canada Games.

Family: Parents David Brault and Sylvie De Serres… Younger brothers Eric and Charles Brault… Getting into the Sport: Competed in Kids of Steel races on and off from age 10… At age 16 started racing junior elite and qualified for junior worlds… Had always been a swimmer and runner so triathlon was a natural transition… Has wanted to represent Canada since competing at 2007 cross-country junior nationals where she was sized for Canadian team gear but didn’t finish high enough to actually get it… Decided that next time she would be fast enough to race for Canada… Outside Interests: Graduated from West Virginia University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics and Finance… Enjoys travelling, reading, being outside, camping, hiking, crossword puzzles and ice cream… Wants to learn to surf… Would like to pursue career in corporate finance or stocks… Odds and Ends: Likes even numbers and hates Wednesdays… Favourite motto: Pas de bras, pas de chocolat (No pain, no gain)…
