Trevor Jones rows in his single scull

Trevor Jones

Biography

Trevor Jones got his first taste of international competition at the 2015 World Junior Rowing Championships where he was a member of the men’s quad sculls. In 2016, he moved up to the U23 team and advanced to the A final of the double sculls with partner Cody Bailey at the U23 Worlds.

It was also in 2016, while in his second year at Trent University, that Jones was identified through the RBC Training Ground program, providing him with additional funding and resources to help his career. In 2017, he made his World Cup debut in the single sculls in Lucerne. He went on to win gold in the single sculls at the 2017 U23 World Championships. That year he also represented Ontario at Canada Summer Games, taking gold in single sculls and double sculls.

In 2018, Jones dealt with a forearm strain but still successfully defended his single sculls gold medal at the U23 World Championships. Eventually diagnosed with compartment syndrome in his left arm, the injury required two surgeries and kept him from making his senior world championships debut later in the season. He would compete at his first senior worlds in 2019 in Austria where he partnered with Matthew Buie in the double sculls. They only got in a boat together a month before the competition due to Jones’ recovery from his second surgery.

Jones was back in the single sculls at the final Olympic qualification regatta in May 2021 where he finished second in the event to qualify for Tokyo 2020. In his Olympic debut, Jones advanced to the B final of the men’s single sculls in which he finished third to place ninth overall.
