Alexandra (Ali) ten Hove
Biography
Ali ten Hove teamed up with Mariah Millen to race the 49er FX in the summer of 2016. Ten Hove had previously competed in the 420 and 470 classes with Allie Surette, but they came up short of qualifying for Rio 2016. Now the skipper, ten Hove quickly rose up the ranks with Millen as the duo finished second at the North American Championships in 2016 and 2017. It was also in 2017 that they won their first Canadian title and finished fifth at the 49er FX Junior World Championships.
They made their first appearance at the ISAF World Sailing Championships in 2018, qualifying for the gold fleet and a spot on the national team. An early highlight in 2019 was a 15th-place finish at the European Championships, a best ever Canadian result. They would go on to record a fourth-place finish at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, earning an Olympic spot in the event for Canada for Tokyo 2020. In February 2020, they earned a career-best world championship result, finishing 18th at the 49er FX class worlds in Australia.
