Biography

Daniel Winnik made his Olympic debut at Beijing 2022 where he recorded one goal and one assist. Winnik previously played for Team Canada at the Spengler Cup in 2018 and 2019, winning silver and gold, respectively.

Winnik played junior hockey with the OPJHL’s Wexford Raiders. He was a late pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, taken in the 9th round, 265th overall, by the Phoenix Coyotes. Winnik would commit to the University of New Hampshire, spending three years in the NCAA.

After a successful junior season that saw him post his second consecutive 40-point season for the Wildcats and be named a Hockey East Second Team All-Star, Winnik joined Phoenix’s minor league system in 2006. He made his NHL debut at the start of the 2007-08 season and spent two more years with Phoenix before being traded to Colorado in 2010-11. Stops in San Jose, Anaheim, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Toronto again, Washington, and Minnesota would follow from 2012 to 2018.

Winnik joined Swiss team Genève-Servette HC for the 2018-19 season. He was named assistant captain in 2020-21.
