David Bissett

Biography

David Bissett is a two-time Olympian who won a bronze medal at Vancouver 2010 as a member of the four-man sled piloted by Lyndon Rush. It was Canada’s first medal in the event since Innsbruck 1964.

Four years earlier he had been in the Canada-2 sled with pilot Serge Despres in both the two-man and four-man events, just a few short months after first giving bobsleigh a try. Bissett had competed in bobsleigh for the first time in November 2005. By January 2006, he had made his World Cup debut in Königssee, Germany.

Between Olympic appearances, Bissett had consistently competed with pilot Pierre Lueders, winning multiple World Cup medals in both the two-man and four-man events, as well as the silver medal in the four-man event at the 2007 World Championships.

After winning Olympic bronze in February 2010, Bissett did not compete again until January 2011. After just one World Cup, he finished sixth in the four-man event with Lyndon Rush at the 2011 World Championships. Bissett then stepped away from the sport for the next two seasons.

Getting to know…

Had played football (tailback) at the University of Alberta… Was also a member of the school’s track team, competing in the 60m sprint… Joined the team on the developmental Europa Cup circuit just four days after the U of A Golden Bears were eliminated from the CIS playoffs in November 2005…
