Evan Carey

Biography

Evan Carey was named to his first national team in the fall of 2014 after impressing selectors at a training camp in Los Angeles. He went on to compete in UCI World Cup events for the first time in November 2014 as a member of the team sprint. In January 2015 he was part of the gold medal-winning team sprint and won individual bronze medals in the sprint and keirin at the Canadian Championships, held at the Milton Velodrome. Carey went on to compete at his first UCI World Championships in February, helping Canada to a 13^th place finish in the team sprint.

PERSONAL

Family: Parents Doug and Linda Carey… Younger sister Rachel… Getting into the Sport: Started track cycling at age 18… Had previously competed in track and field but after an injury he needed a method of cross-training and cycling offered what he was looking for… From the moment he started riding a bike for training his passion for cycling started growing… Outside Interests: Second year student at Camosun College School of Business, pursuing Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting… Enjoys sailing and spending time outdoors… Odds and Ends: Has wanted to represent Canada since watching the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games on TV… Inspired by British six-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy… Always travels with his iPhone which is his camera, notepad, voice recorder and filing system…
