Biography

· In 2017 and 2018, won a total of three Karate 1 Premier League medals (2 silver, 1 bronze) and three Series A medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze)
· Ranked sixth in the world in her weight class as of June 13, 2019
· Competed at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in taekwondo, placing fifth in the 49kg event while representing the United Arab Emirates
· Volunteered at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, participating in a karate demonstration show

Getting into the Sport: Both parents are accomplished international level karatekas and run a dojo, where Haya began training at age 4 and competing at age 6 … Practiced karate, taekwondo and kickboxing, moving her focus exclusively to karate once she heard it was to become an Olympic sport at Tokyo 2020… Outside Interests: Graduated from York University in June 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Health Science… Aims to begin graduate studies in Physiotherapy and Chiropractic in September 2019… Longterm goal of opening her own clinic… Volunteers with UNICEF on campus … Odds and Ends: Moved to Canada from United Arab Emirates in November 2013… Has wanted to be a Canadian Olympian since watching Team Canada walk into Athens 2004 in the country where the Games began… Favourite quote: “Winners are not people who never fail, but people who never quit.
