Katie Monton
Biography
Katie Monton has been with the senior women’s national team since 2007, when she competed at both the FINA World Junior Championships and FINA World Championships. In 2009 she helped Canada reach the podium at two major international events when the team won its first ever silver medal in the FINA Water Polo World League Super Final and captured silver at the World Championships.
PERSONAL
Family: Parents Luis and Johanne Monton… Younger sisters Danielle and Olivia… Getting into the Sport: Started playing water polo at age 13… Was a swimmer first before playing water polo in the summer pool system where she was recruited by a winter coach to be part of a club… Has had her Olympic dream since watching the Games on TV as a kid… Outside Interests: Studies at Concordia University on hiatus, pursuing Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Psychology… Enjoys cooking, baking, shopping, and hanging out with friends and family… Has been a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters for two years… Odds and Ends: Pregame routine includes listening to music en route to pool and visualization…
