Marie-Ève Beauchemin-Nadeau

Biography

Marie-Ève Beauchemin-Nadeau earned her first major international gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, four years after she captured silver in Delhi, both in the 75kg weight class. She also won gold at the 2014 World University Championships, a competition at which she had won bronze in 2010, and is a two-time bronze medallist at the Summer Universiade. Beauchemin-Nadeau has competed at eight senior world championships, posting her best result in 2013 when she finished fifth in the 75kg weight class. At the 2015 Worlds, she competed in the 69kg weight class for the first time at a major event since she finished sixth in her Olympic debut at London 2012. She went on to win 69kg bronze at the 2016 Pan American Championships before finishing ninth at Rio 2016. Beauchemin-Nadeau just missed the podium at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, finishing fourth in the 75kg weight class. She is the national record holder for total weight lifted at both 69kg (240kg) and 75kg (251kg).

Family: Parents Guy-Paul Beauchemin and Sylvie Nadeau… Younger sister Andréanne… Getting into the Sport: Started weightlifting at age 15… She was doing athletics when her coach encouraged her to try weightlifting to improve her power and she fell in love with it instantly… Outside Interests: Completed postdoctoral studies in family medicine at Sherbrooke University and did her residency at a hospital in Rouyn-Noranda… Took her exams and was accepted to the Collège des médecins in October 2015… Enjoys watching movies, reading, cooking… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: If something is worth doing, it’s worth doing well…
