Sébastien Beaulieu

Biography

Sébastien Beaulieu got his first taste of World Cup competition in January 2010 at a Canadian-hosted event in Stoneham, Quebec. He competed at Stoneham each of the next two years, before attending his first overseas World Cup events in 2012-13. 

In January 2017, Beaulieu dislocated his left shoulder and fractured the head of his humerus but finished the season while only having full use of one arm. He was still able to make his first appearance at the FIS World Championships and ended up with his best overall World Cup ranking at that time. After winning the national title in parallel giant slalom, he had surgery in April and was ready for the start of the 2017-18 campaign.  

In January 2018, Beaulieu advanced to the quarterfinals at a World Cup for the first time in Bankso, Bulgaria. He finished seventh in that parallel giant slalom event, just a few hours after learning he would not be going to the 2018 Olympic Games, missing the qualification cutoff by one spot. 

In the 2018-19 season, Beaulieu matched his career-high with another seventh-place finish in parallel giant slalom in Scuol, Switzerland in March. That helped him break into the top-30 in the overall World Cup standings for alpine snowboard. Beaulieu competed at his third straight world championships in 2021. He made his Olympic debut at Beijing 2022.

Beaulieu finished second overall in the Nor-Am Cup alpine snowboard standings in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He has seven career Nor-Am Cup victories, the most recent in March 2019.

Getting into the Sport: Started snowboarding at age 7 in freestyle events but after being told he was really good at turns he transitioned to compete in alpine snowboard events when he was 13… Has wanted to be an Olympian since watching Jasey-Jay Anderson win PGS gold at Vancouver 2010 where he was a forerunner for the event…  Outside Interests: Has supported the Breast Cancer Foundation since his mother was diagnosed with the disease… Enjoys road cycling, mountain biking, kitesurfing, and spending time with his golden retrievers, Pixel and Mia… Odds and Ends: Favourite motto: “Never give up”…
