Tessa Cieplucha

Biography

Tessa Cieplucha won Canada’s only gold medal in swimming at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima where she finished first in the 400m IM. She had qualified for her first senior national team by winning bronze in the 200m IM at the 2019 Canadian Trials. She made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 in the 400m IM. 

Cieplucha competed in the 2014 FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships and the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships. While representing the University of Tennessee, Cieplucha helped the Lady Vols win their first ever SEC Championship title in her senior year in 2019-20. She won two gold medals at that SEC Championship in the 400-yard IM (setting a school record time) and 800-yard freestyle relay.

Getting into the Sport: Started swimming at age 7 and began competing at age 9… Followed her older sister into the sport and wanted to pursue the same big goals such as competing in college… Outside Interests: Graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2021 with a double major in Geology and Environmental Studies… Enjoys hiking and spending time outside… Would like to pursue a career in sustainability and green living… Odds and Ends: Favourite quote: “If you have a lane, you have a chance”…
